On August 17 four of our CEA residents obeyed the gospel with baptism! They have been active in bible studies with our minister, Dennis, for some time. Each of them made this very important decision on their own to accept Christ!
Summer Activities End
The summer of fun activities officially came to a close on Sept. 10. This summer the children made pillows from saved food wrappers, learned knot tying, had a scavenger hunt, played “minute to win it” games, performed in a talent show, had a “family day” with team building games, enjoyed a “CEA Family luncheon”, and movie night with popcorn! Albeit too short, the children enjoyed their summer of fun!
Another Year of Modular Homeschooling
On Sept. 13 we began another school year for the children of CEA. However, face to face classes at the schools have not yet resumed due to Covid 19. The result is that we must continue our “homeschooling” with modular class material being supplied to us from the Department of Education.
This inability to send our CEA children to school each day puts an additional burden on our staff and requires us to bring in volunteer teachers to assist us. We pay a small honorarium to our volunteer teachers as their continued dedication is essential and to also assist them with travel expenses.
With our children ranging from pre-school to Grade 10 it proves challenging to manage all our children at such varied levels of learning, not to mention our venue dilemma for so many different grade levels.
We continue to use the tent and divide the children up into various groups to complete their class material but it’s like going back to the old “one room school” days!
Without knowing how long the children will be unable to attend face to face classes, we are hoping to begin construction of our planned school building in the near future. Our architect is currently working on the preliminary design.
Construction Update
Tiling and countertop installation for the family cottage is well underway with only a small percentage yet to be completed. The roof soffit is now complete as well. Soon will come plumbing fixtures installation, interior paint, and lighting.
