“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
– Old Proverb
Casa Esperanza of Angels Philippine Mission is committed to helping impoverished communities near the mission improve their living conditions and live self-sufficient if not abundant lives. However, we realize that for our help to be really effective in the long term, we need to do more than charitable giving for these poor communities. Thus, a part of our outreach program includes providing the venue and resources so that important livelihood and income-generating skills can be taught to the parents in these communities to enable them to make a living or augment their incomes to support their families.
We need your help to complete construction of this facility that will be used for our Livelihood Skills Training Program:

A Venue to Teach Livelihood Skills
At the moment, we’re working on a construction project to build a multi-purpose pavilion inside the Casa Esperanza of Angels mission to serve as a venue for the skills training program. The pavilion will primarily be used as the worship and meeting center for the church of Christ congregation we’re seeking to organize in Tanjay City. On certain occasions, however, this building will also be open to the public for our community outreach events and for livelihood training sessions that will benefit the poorest households in this city.
Income-Generating Skills
We will be working closely with government agencies, private NGOs, and other agencies to bring resource persons who are knowledgeable and competent to teach livelihood skills to the people of our target communities. Skills that can be easily marketed or used to generate income include:
• Backyard or urban farming to help housewives raise their own nutritious food to feed their families
• Sewing skills
• Small-scale food processing
• Backyard fish-farming
• Carpentry and masonry
• Computer literacy
• Crafts-making
• Cell phone repair
• Small-scale retail store operations
• Household budget management
We believe that people can rapidly rise from the poverty trap once they have the skills and means to do so. Charitable giving will always be applicable in many situations but when people are able to work with dignity and earn a decent living for themselves and their families, the results are much more significant and exponential.
We envision these neighboring communities rising out of poverty in the future, becoming self-sufficient, and able to extend help to other needy communities. We want to start the spark at Casa Esperanza that will light up these communities to become thriving enclaves where people live decent and fulfilled lives.
To put this in perspective, we want to help these people help themselves because we believe it’s a more effective poverty-alleviation strategy in the long run. Our goal is to demonstrate the love and compassion of Christ and the Christian love for our fellowmen through our actions. We are building a church of Christ congregation in Tanjay City (population:80,000) and we’re confident that people in these communities will be open to our invitation to evangelization meetings when they feel that we are truly concerned and would like to help alleviate their living conditions.
