Taking Risks Based on Wisdom…and Faith!
The Bible encourages both careful planning and thoughtful risk-taking. It emphasizes wisdom, prayerfulness, and seeking counsel when facing major decisions.
Ultimately, Scripture calls followers of God to step out in faith rather than fear, but carefully, in order to continue being responsible stewards.
In other words, taking risks is not inherently wrong; it’s about discerning when to step out in faith and when to exercise wisdom.
Here are a few Bible verses that shed light on this topic:
Proverbs 3:5
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” This verse highlights the importance of trusting God even when faced with uncertainty. Faith cannot exist without some level of risk, and God desires that we rely on Him for guidance and strength.
Proverbs 11:14
“For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.” While faith involves risk, blind faith is not recommended. Seeking wise counsel and considering different perspectives can help us make informed decisions.
2 Timothy 1:7
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Fear is not from God; instead, He equips us with the power of His Spirit. Taking risks rooted in faith, knowing that God guides us, becomes essential.
Matthew 14:29
In the famous story where Jesus walks on water, He calls Peter to join Him. Peter steps out of the boat but becomes fearful and starts sinking. While Peter took a risk, his lack of faith caused him to falter. We learn that faith involves both risk and trust in God.
Remember, life is full of risks, and missing opportunities could lead to regret.
As long as we discern God’s will and honor Him, risks can lead to wonderful rewards.
Just as Jesus took the ultimate risk by giving His life for us, He calls us to put our faith in Him, knowing that He is more trustworthy than we’ll ever be.
So, take those calculated risks after practicing discernment, prayer, seeking wise counsel, and considering different perspectives…trusting that God is with you!
James 3:17
17But the wisdom that is from above is first pure,
then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield,
full of mercy and good fruits,
without partiality and without hypocrisy.
