Gigi and I returned to the Casa Esperanza of Angels facility on Jan. 31. We wish for everyone we came into contact with on our US trip to know that we truly appreciate your hospitality, enthusiasm about the mission, your encouragement, and your generosity towards the work. We can’t do it without all of YOU!
I had been suffering with an extreme gout attack in my left foot for the entire trip from the US and following that weathered 2 days of severe diarrhea but have since recovered from both. Gigi also endured a few nights of sporadic sleep while her internal clock got reset to Philippine time!
The children at Casa Esperanza were anxious to see us and are doing well. It is good to be back with them, see their smiling faces, and hear their laughter as they play around the Casa Esperanza grounds!
Following our recovery time we are once again tackling the tasks at hand and those tasks that piled up while we were away!
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
While we were in the US, our welding crew finished the roof structure for the second house in coordination with Save Asian Souls to house 24 girls vulnerable to human trafficking.
We have ordered the roofing material and hope to soon have the roof completed. Following that we will install the soffit, ceiling, and windows of the home. Completion of this home will initiate our human trafficking prevention program.
While we were away our construction crew also worked on the drainage canals on the property as well as the exterior enclosure wall.
Upcoming Projects
Gigi and I are working to complete all the financial records for 2019 and also implementing an advocacy plan to cities in our area in an effort to find more needy children for the first children’s home and expand our orphan care program.
We have contracted an individual to complete the canvas part of our church tent structure and expect him to finish it in about 2 weeks. We will be working on backfill for the floor of the tent as well as purchase chairs and other items in preparation for
worship services in the tent soon! This will be a big step in our church of Christ establishment program here in Tanjay City!
We plan to also do some backfill/leveling work on the playground area in anticipation of a basketball/volleyball/badminton court as well as other playground equipment for the children in the near future. While their spiritual and secular knowledge growth is the most important, we also want to see them physically healthy and happy! A functional playground will also will help to burn off some of that extra energy we all wish we still had!
