Return to Casa Esperanza of Angels & Other Updates | May 2019 Newsletter

Home! Sweet Home!

Following many hours of travel — Atlanta to Chicago, Chicago to Hong Kong, Hong Kong to Cebu, Cebu to Dumaguete, Dumaguete to Tanjay — we finally arrived safely back at home here at the Philippine Mission – Casa Esperanza of Angels in Tanjay City, Philippines!

Being away for two months is not easy. It takes a lot of preparation before the trip to the US and often a tremendous workload upon returning home. It proves to be “bitter – sweet”!

The “sweet” part being, no matter where you call home, it is always good to get back. We also returned to bananas on the trees, pineapples bearing fruit, and our ever faithful papayas! The fruit trees and plants we’re currently growing at the facility are part of our mission’s Sustainability Program.

The “bitter” part is we often return home to many problems to be resolved besides the mountain of work! This time proved to be no exception!

We returned to a completely dead phone landline and internet service, extreme heat and drought, frequent power outages, a malfunctioning well pump, loss of a couple of fruit trees, losses of a fair number of ornamental plants in our nursery due to the heat and drought, and a lot of things to catch up on.

So we began working on the problems the next day following our return. The lost plants will have to be replaced but we have restored the phone/internet service, gotten our well pump working again, catching up on many tasks, and are praying for cooler temperatures and more frequent rain!

Construction Update

While we were in the US our construction crew continued work on the exterior enclosure wall.

They completed approximately 189’ more of our 3 meter (9 foot) tall wall.

The more of this wall we can complete the safer our facility becomes. We still lack approximately 700 feet of wall to build until the entire property is enclosed.

We are working with the local electric company to initiate the installation of our permanent 3 phase electrical supply lines to the property.

We are also working on plans for completion of the central laundry house which will temporarily be used as our administrative office, and plans for the 2nd children’s home where we will house girls vulnerable to human trafficking.

Can you help?

We need to purchase a vehicle for transporting the children at our orphanage. We are considering purchasing a “multi-cab” or “easy ride” as they are commonly called here in the Philippines.

We hope to purchase a good quality second hand unit. Estimated cost for purchase, minor repairs/improvements, registration, and insurance is about $5,000.

If you are able to donate towards this vehicle we would greatly appreciate your donation!

A Special Thank You!

We want to extend a very special THANK YOU! to all the congregations that allowed us to come speak about our mission work here in the Philippines, to all those who hosted us in their homes, to all those who fed us so well, to all those who donated and support our work, and for all your words of encouragement! We couldn’t do what we do without all of YOU!
